Compounded Tirzepatide
We understand you may have questions regarding the recent changes to tirzepatide compounding. This page provides information about why compounding will no longer be available after February 18, 2025, and outlines your options going forward.
The FDA has clarified its stance on the compounding of tirzepatide. Specifically, with brand-name medications like Zepbound no longer on the FDA shortage list, the FDA has indicated that compounding of tirzepatide now violates existing patents. While compounding pharmacies play an important role in providing medications tailored to individual patient needs, the FDA's regulations, in conjunction with patent law, aim to protect intellectual property. This change affects all pharmacies nationwide and means that after February 18, 2025, pharmacies will no longer be able to compound tirzepatide.

Patients Currently Taking Tirzepatide
Before February 18, 2025, Elless offers patients the opportunity to purchase a larger quantity of compounded tirzepatide in anticipation of the discontinuation of compounding. A vial of 50 mg is $460. Each additional vial has a $50 fee for extended care. Please schedule a follow-up as soon as possible.
Options for Continued Weight Loss and Maintaining Weight loss
Maintaining Momentum with a GLP-1
-
Semaglutide as a possibility: One option is transitioning to semaglutide. While it's important to understand that semaglutide may not lead to the same level of weight loss as tirzepatide, especially after you've already been on tirzepatide, it can still be a valuable tool for weight maintenance. It can help regulate appetite and support your ongoing efforts.
-
Zepbound (tirzepatide) as an option: Zepbound is the brand name for tirzepatide. If you've had success with tirzepatide, continuing with Zepbound is an option to maintain your progress. Check with the manufacturer for any available cost-saving programs or coupons.
The Power of Diet and Exercise
-
Foundation for success: Regardless of whether you continue with medication, a structured approach to diet and exercise is absolutely critical. These lifestyle changes are the cornerstone of long-term weight management.
-
Preventing regain: Without a solid plan for nutrition and physical activity, the risk of regaining weight, especially after discontinuing a GLP-1 medication, is significant. Consider working with a registered dietitian and/or a certified personal trainer to develop a personalized plan.
Key Considerations for Long-Term Success:
-
Consult your healthcare provider: Every individual's journey is unique. It's crucial to discuss your specific situation and goals with your doctor before making any decisions about your weight management strategy. They can provide personalized guidance and monitor your progress.
-
Weight loss is a journey: Remember that weight management is an ongoing process, not a quick fix. Developing a sustainable long-term plan that incorporates healthy habits and, if appropriate, medication, is essential for lasting results.
-
The importance of consistency: Whether you choose to continue medication or focus solely on lifestyle changes, consistency is paramount. Sticking to your diet and exercise plan, and attending regular check-ups with your doctor, will significantly impact your success.
-
Support systems: Don't hesitate to seek support from healthcare professionals, family, friends, or support groups. Having a strong support system can make a significant difference in your ability to stay motivated and achieve your goals.
